By the time I started playing hockey, sticks were no longer wood, goal keeping equipment was foam, not leather wrapped wood, long corners were taken from the sideline and the offside rule had been abolished. So, when I stumbled across this highlights video of a 1986 game between Australia and England I was pretty excited.
Highly recommended viewing for you oldies out there to invoke nostalgic sentiments, and for youngsters too, so they can see just how it actually was done ‘back in our day’.
On a recent excursion to Elizabeth’s finest establishment – the Louisiana Tavern, a rather tasty cheese and pineapple topped steak was being offered on the Special of the Day menu.
Needless to say the temptation of a $19.90 steak was too much for my friend to resist. Reaching the front of the line he orders one, and asks it to be medium. The waiter spent the next 5 minutes stabbing at the screen, trying to find where he could indicate to the kitchen that this steak needed to be medium cooked. With an ever growing line behind us eventually he seemed to find a way to make it happen, and we headed off to our table assuming all was well.
That is until we took a seat and discovered upon further examination of the special’s board, that what’s on offer is actually a ham steak topped with cheese and pineapple.

No doubt the kitchen staff got a good laugh out of it when the order for a “ham steak – medium” came through.
